Global professional services firm Deloitte has celebrated the 16th edition of its ‘Impact Day’ initiative in India late last month, which involves the dedication of several employee hours on a voluntary basis to support NGOs in the country with tackling crucial social and economic issues.

Impact Day is a global initiative organised by the Big Four accounting and advisory firm annually as part of its efforts in the Corporate Social Responsibility domain. The initiative secures a large amount of community service, as Deloitte employees work to share their knowledge and skills with various groups.

The firm held a mammoth edition of Impact Day earlier this year, when as many as 29,000 of its staff contributed to 175 projects stretching across 12 cities in India. That particular edition focused on promoting skills among the youth in India’s regions of slower socio-economic growth.

Deloitte has now held the 16th edition of Impact Day in India, which involved work on several additional projects. The firm essentially supported NGOs by taking charge of the entire project lifecycle, offering advice on the conceptualisation and design phase all the way to the implementation phase.

The projects are selected by certain project leads, who find NGOs that align with Deloitte’s value system and shortlist the most relevant projects. These project leads then communicate with NGOs to develop an outline of their requirements and the expected need for employee hours.

Commenting on the Impact Day, Chief Talent Officer at Deloitte India SV Nathan said, “For more than a decade, through the Impact Day initiative, Deloitte in India has been driving positive social change. We believe that positive change requires an engagement and investment of time and efforts to make an impact.”

“Through the focus areas of education and skill building, we hope that our volunteers will help bridge the gap between the skills people have and those that they need to fulfil their aspirations in a rapidly changing world,” he added.

Regional Managing Partner at Deloitte Bruce Stewart added, “Impact day is a collective investment of our time and skills to truly make an impact that matters in the community. With our continued focus on education and employability, this year, we have expanded our reach and scope to drive greater change across all sections of our community.”
