TCS lauded for the diversity of its workforce in the United States
Indian IT services giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been recognised for the diversity of its workforce in the United States, having been named amongst the top 50 companies in the country for diversity. The rankings were compiled for 2019 by US- based publication DiversityInc.
The firm’s profile in the US has been expanding rapidly in recent years, exemplified by its high-profile contract with Transamerica last year, which was worth approximately $2 billion. Last year, the firm was named the 58th most valuable brand in the US, and has come to be lauded for its contribution to the economy.
Over the last half decade, TCS has created over 20,000 jobs in the US, and part of the firm’s charm appears to be in the diversity of its workforce. In its pan – American operations, TCS employs individuals from as many as 70 different nationalities, nearly 30% of which are women.
This diverse profile is apparently not an accident, given the firm’s active engagements with various other organisations to promote a more equal and diverse workplace. The firm has a partnership with Million Women Mentors, which is an initiative to spark an interest among women in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics domain.
TCS’ efforts with Million Women Mentors thus far has created a dedicated networks of more than 60 companies across 43 states in the US. Over 1 million women across the US are involved in mentorship programmes as a result, 110, 000 of which are within TCS itself.
Other partnerships for diversity that TCS is involved in include National Center for Women and Information Technology, STEMconnector, US2020 and NPower. The latter two partnerships have, up until this point, engaged as many as 150,000 students from diverse social segments.
