Soniks Consulting, an Indian tech startup, has developed a new online video conferencing platform. The new 'WebKonf Meetings' platform aims at capitalising on spiking demand under Covid-19 conditions.

The firm reports that no Indian company features in the top ten video conferencing platforms currently being used in India, which currently includes the likes of Zoom, Google Hangouts and Skype, among others. Soniks is looking to become a homegrown competitor to these global platforms.

Soniks reports that the platform is currently in the testing phase and has had a positive response so far. The platform is equipped with all the standard bells and whistles, including video conference capabilities, instant messaging, file sharing, screen sharing and options for recording.

According to CEO of Soniks Consulting Rama Narayan Reddy Malay, WebKonf Meetings has advanced whiteboard capabilities and collaborative document editing features. The tool also will appeal to users for its provisions for storage and security.

Malay explains how, much like the best tools, WebKonf Meetings can be accessed using a single URL, which is passcode and securecode protected. Secure links are generated using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, which generate encrypted links to be shared between hosts and clients on the web or via email.

None of the data from the audio, video or messaging is stored on the server, which adds another layer of privacy and security, according to Malay. All these additional privacy and security measures are aimed at giving WebKonf Meetings the edge when compared to established global platforms, which have been questioned for their threats to privacy and security.

The new tool is available free of cost for an initial three-month period, given to draw consumers in and build reliance on the WebKonf Meetings interface. Malay predicts that the product will have long-term applications, not only due to the sustained forecasts for Covid-19 disruption, but also due to a change in overall business priorities and working structure.

For now, Soniks Consulting will have an active market within which to test its new product, given that most of the business environment is currently experimenting with online platforms to maintain business continuity in the most secure and cost-effective manner possible.
