Most IIM Trichy graduates kickstart their career in consulting

Over a third of all graduates from the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management from IIM Trichy have joined consulting firms, according to an analysis of the career paths of the institute’s graduates.

The IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIM Trichy), one of the premier educational institutions of India, has a range of post graduate programmes in among others management and human resources, as well as doctoral programmes for students and professionals.

The two-year full-time Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) is the flagship programme of IIM Trichy, aimed at developing young women and men into competent professional managers. The programme’ first year exposes students to the different facets of management, while the second year allows them to pick elective courses that aligns with their career goals and objectives.

The latest PGPM batch saw 178 students graduate, and with great pride Professor Ayon Chakraborty, Placement Chairperson, said in a statement that every one of the students has been placed at a leading private or public sector organisation.

119 companies participated in the placement round, including the likes of banking giants Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan & Chase, ICICI Bank, and AstraZeneca, Reliance Industries, Frost & Sullivan, Godrej, GMR Group, Shell and Amazon.

As seen at other top business schools, management consulting is a hugely popular destination for graduates. Over one third of graduates landed a job in consulting, at employers including McKinsey & Company, the Big Four of Deloitte and PwC, technology-origin consultancies as Accenture and Cognizant, as well as Indian-origin players such as Avalon Consulting. 

On average, graduates have across the board been provided an average annual compensation of 15 lakh, up 12% on last year, with the top earning IIM Trichy alumnus taking home 25 lakh in his first year of post graduate employment.
