IT services giant Wipro has completed a decade as part of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), having featured on the list every year in succession since the Index began in 2009. The firm’s performance has been particularly strong, ranking second in the IT services sector worldwide.

The S&P DJSI (World) is the benchmark for global corporate sustainability efforts, and is based on a comprehensive analysis of a firm’s operations. Global companies are assessed against an expansive set of metrics, which includes more than 20 primary indicators and 120 secondary indicators.

These metrics stretch across a wide variety of domains, including the economic, environmental, social and governance spheres. Over 2,000 large companies across the globe are subject to these comprehensive assessments, at the end of which some 300 are shortlisted into the final DJSI (World) index.

Wipro makes tenth appearance on Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Wipro outshone most others from the IT services domain in this year’s DJSI (World). The firm, which is among the largest and most dynamic IT services firms in India, emerged as the best Indian IT services firm when it comes to sustainable corporate governance, while placing 2nd on the IT services list globally.

The firm’s success on the DJSI (World) is likely to be a boon for business in the contemporary economy, where environmental, social and corporate governance responsibilities are increasingly a central consideration for businesses across the globe. In light of Paris agreement considerations, a strong performance in the sustainability domain is a promising indicator.

Wipro has been performing considerably well within the Indian market and across the globe. The firm has held its own among a number of strong competitors in the Indian IT services domain, while also fending off competition from international firms that are looking to flood the market.

According to senior leadership at the firm, sustainability will continue to be a priority at the firm. “It is an honour to be part of the S&P DJSI (World) Index \for ten years consecutively. We appreciate the comprehensive nature of the assessment as it helps us constantly improve our standards in our sustainability journey. The recognition is a reaffirmation of Wipro’s values and our commitment to being a sustainable and responsible corporation,” said Abidali Z. Neemuchwala, CEO of Wipro.
