Indian partner Satish Shankar lands top Asia role at Bain
Global management consultancy Bain & Company has appointed Indian executive Satish Shankar as its Regional Managing Partner for the Asia Pacific region (APAC). Shankar has been at the firm for two decades, and was previously the Managing Partner for the region of Southeast Asia.
Shankar holds a degree in chemical engineering and a post-graduate degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Ahmedabad, following which he began his professional career in 1990 at Coats Viyella India. His first assignment outside of India came with the Gobel Group, where he was posted in Jakarta.
He worked as a Financial Advisor at Gobel, and joined Bain & Company in 1997 after nearly three years at the former. At Bain, Shankar has risen through the ranks and contributed to a wide array of fields, specifically dealing with portfolio, business units, market entry strategies and mergers & acquisitions.
In terms of clientele, Shankar has dealt with businesses in a number of different sectors, including Energy and Natural Resources and Transportation and Consumer Products, helping them with strategy, transformation, performance improvement and supporting with his expertise in mergers & acquisitions.
As per the firm, Shankar has achieved significant success at Bain, especially at his most recent role of Managing Partner for Bain in Southeast Asia, where the firm reportedly achieved growth in double digits under his supervision. He worked with clients across Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
In his new role, Shankar will leverage the familiarity he has gained with these regions to supervise strategy, operations, training and development across the APAC region. Among his tasks as Managing Partner for APAC is supporting multinational firms in the region with developing efficient and relevant business models.
