Following the promotion of Neeraj Aggarwal to Chairman of BCG’s Asia Pacific operations, the global management consultancy has announced his replacement for the Managing Director position in India. The position will now be filled by former head of BCG Asia Pacific’s insurance practice Alpesh Shah.

Shah was selected after a protracted selection process, which was managed in collaboration between former Managing Director Neeraj Aggarwal and current Chairman of BCG India Janmajeya Sinha. The duo was reportedly deciding from a shortlist of four Senior Partners who were equally qualified to take the top job.

Aggarwal himself was appointed MD for India less than three years ago, but was then promoted to Chairman of BCG Asia Pacific after Sinha vacated that position to take up his role as Chairman of BCG India. Over the last two months, Aggarwal and Sinha have been jointly handling the responsibilities of the India MD role.

Shah is a highly qualified professional, with a bachelors degree in Computer Science and an Masters of Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad – widely regarded as the most prestigious business school in the country. He began his professional career at management consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton.

By the end of a four-year spell at Booz Allen Hamilton, Shah had ascended to the position of Senior Associate, following which he was picked up by BCG. He immediately took up the role of Senior Partner & Director at BCG’s Mumbai office, where he did a lot of work with clients in the insurance and financial services segments.

His experience in this segment earned him recognition at the firm, leading to his eventual promotion to the job of the Regional Practice Leader for the Insurance segment in the Asia Pacific region in 2015. Shah will now head BCG’s extensive India practice, which incorporates over 1,200 professionals across the country.

Commenting on the appointment, Aggarwal said, “With his strong focus on capability-building, dedication to client service and passion for developing teams and championing diversity, I am very confident about BCG India’s next chapter under Alpesh’s leadership.”

Sinha added, “Alpesh is the right leader to strengthen and further consolidate BCG India’s leadership position in the industry. With his proven track record, I am sure that he will continue to build on the winning growth momentum of the business.”
