Karan Singh leads Bain’s Sustainability & Responsibility arm in APAC
Bain & Company has appointed India chairman Karan Singh as the new Asia Pacific leader of its Sustainability & Responsibility practice.
A 25-year veteran of Bain & Company, New Delhi-based Singh has been with the firm since 1998. He has more than 25+ years of strategy and management consulting experience gained across Asia, Europe and the United States.
Commenting on his new role, Singh said: “The topic of sustainability and responsibility is rapidly evolving and growing. I am honoured at the opportunity of leading our Sustainability & Responsibility practice and look forward to working with companies to embed ESG in their strategic priorities, and scaling the practice across Asia Pacific.”
After spending eight years with Bain & Company internationally, in 2006 Singh was one of the founding partners who helped establish the firm’s business in India.
Over the past eight years, he served as India managing partner. During his two terms in office, Bain & Company grew by a compound annual growth rate of over 20%, and scaled its partner team by 4x. Today, the Indian organisation is its largest (and fastest growing) in the Asia Pacific region.
Last month, Singh passed on the baton to successor Parijat Ghosh and transitioned to the role of India chairman.
While he specialises in growth transformation, turnaround, mergers & acquisitions, and change management, Singh is passionate about environment, sustainability and governance (ESG) topics and has experience helping clients define more purpose-driven strategies, decarbonise their operations, and adopt circular economy principles, among others.
“I am confident that Karan will continue to bring his trademark boldness to our ambition of building out our Sustainability & Responsibility practice in the region,” said Satish Shankar, Bain & Company’s Asia Pacific regional managing partner. “We aspire build on the strong start of the practice and create many more client and people success stories in the ESG space.”
Globally, Bain & Company launched its Sustainability & Responsibility practice in 2011. According to the firm’s own records, the practice has since its inception undertaken more than 1,000 sustainability projects, including more than 800 which touched on climate transition cases.
Bain & Company’s global managing partner of ESG, François Faelli, said: “Sustainability is one of the most important themes of our time and no doubt Karan will be at the front and center leading our Asia Pacific clients to define bold ambitions and achieve extraordinary results. His strong leadership experience, entrepreneurial mindset and camaraderie with colleagues and clients make him a solid candidate for this role.”
