Avendus Capital advises BookMyShow on minority investment from KKR
Avendus Capital has acted as exclusive financial advisor to BookMyShow on a minority investment from funds managed by global investment firm KKR. The deal, which remains subject to regulatory approvals, is set to support the Indian ticketing and entertainment platform as it scales its live entertainment business.
Established in 2007, BookMyShow has evolved from a ticketing platform into a full-stack entertainment company, combining technology, consumer reach, and industry capabilities across movies, live entertainment, and experiences. Central to that evolution is BookMyShow Live, its live entertainment division, which operates across the value chain – from talent and IP acquisition to production, promotion, partnerships, and audience development.
Backing India’s live entertainment play
For KKR, the investment reflects its conviction in India’s entertainment sector, powered by rising discretionary spending, a large and young consumer base, and growing demand for live experiences.
“BookMyShow has been a pioneer in delivering high-quality entertainment experiences in India,” said Akshay Tanna, Partner and Head of India Private Equity at KKR. “We believe BookMyShow will play an important role in advancing India’s ambition to become a global entertainment hub and a premier destination for leading artists and acts from around the world.”
“We are delighted to welcome KKR as an investor in BookMyShow,” said Ashish Hemrajani, Founder & CEO of BookMyShow. “Their global perspective, deep expertise and strong understanding of consumer businesses will be invaluable as we enter the next phase of our journey.”
The transaction marks KKR’s latest private equity investment in India, where its portfolio includes Medicover India, Lighthouse Learning, Vini Cosmetics, and Rebel Foods. BookMyShow also joins the firm’s global media and entertainment investments, alongside the likes of ByteDance, Epic Games, and Simon & Schuster.
